Passenger Transportation Board

The Passenger Transportation Board is established by the Passenger Transportation Act and replaces the Motor Carrier Commission. The Board will help modernize the regulation of the commercial transportation industry and provide significant benefits to small business across BC. The Passenger Transportation Act creates a new regulatory structure for commercial passenger carriers.

The Board must consist of at least three persons appointed by the Lieutenant Governor in Council. The Lieutenant Governor in Council must designate one member as the Chair of the Board.

The Board is responsible for determining whether applications to operate inter-city buses or passenger directed vehicles should be approved and for adjudicating appeals from penalties imposed by the Registrar.

What's Involved

Board members are expected to attend monthly meetings and to participate in decision making functions either through reviewing active files or presiding over public hearings. Participation on industry advisory committees may also be required. The Board sets performance timelines and members are expected to adhere to these timelines as much as possible.
